This value is an indicator of a nation's ability to repay foreign obligations (namely debt) while also continuing to support, and strengthen, their domestic economy. Two-thirds of the world's reserves are currently held by powers in Asia (China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea) as noted by the chart below.
